Wise Words from the Great Bambino

“Never let the fear of striking out get in your way.”
- George Herman “Babe” Ruth

Great advice.  I feel like I’m constantly afraid of striking, and I see that fear in a lot of my clients as well.  From now on, I’m going to do my best to let that fear go. I think we could ALL benefit from that.

I miss Domino

Do you guys remember the magazine Domino? The now-defunct magazine some of the most beautiful interiors I’ve ever seen.  In anticipation for my upcoming move, I’ve started assembling inspiration pictures like this one:

Isn’t that incredible?  From the pages of Domino. They never should have closed that magazine!

Crayola 64 Pack Means Big Time

In Stuff I Like on June 29, 2010 at 8:17 pm

Recently I have started partaking in a hobby I used to do all the time: coloring.  No, I don’t mean artful renderings in a sketchbook with pastels.  I mean Crayola and a coloring book for preschoolers with pictures like this:

I colored that last night while watching A&E’s Obsessed.  How’s that for a juxtaposition?

I find coloring incredibly relaxing.  Just like knitting, it busies your hands and is a great tool to prevent after-dinner snacking.  And let’s face it, I’m no great artist.  I will never produce pottery that doesn’t look like a lumpy piece of clay.  I will never produce a painting that isn’t “abstract” (I’m using that word generously).  But with coloring, I can produce an solid piece of work: you know what it is, it’s neat and orderly, and hey, it was my idea to use pink there.

The best part about coloring in your mid-twenties?  I can spring for the 64-pack with the built-in sharpener that my mom would never buy.  6 year old me is so jealous.

Hancock Point, Maine

In Stuff I Like on June 21, 2010 at 10:36 am

I may have the chance to go to Hancock Point, ME for almost 3 weeks in August.  Nothing but me, myself, consulting work (gotta love the magic of computers!), and this view:

This would be the longest I’ve been out of New York City since I’ve moved here four years ago, and the first solo vacation I’ve ever taken.  I don’t know if I’ll end up going or not, but it sure it fun to think about!

Quirk Gallery

This pillow:

reminds me of my little sister, who has been obsessed with giraffes as long as I can remember.  This would be an excellent addition to an otherwise traditional sitting area.  Very unexpected.

House Beautiful

Okay, with pictures like this:

Why am I just learning about House Beautiful NOW?  I love everything about this room: the rounded ceiling, the antique chairs, the tones of grey, cream and raspberry with just a few pops of yellow and green?  LOVE.  Must save this for new apartment inspiration.  Oh and I need a subscription stat.
